PGA of America and United States Golf Association partner to support Tee it Forward

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (November 25, 2011) – TEE IT FORWARD encourages all golfers to play the course at a length that is aligned with their average driving distance. Golfers can speed up play by utilizing tees that provide the greatest playability and enjoyment. Guidelines for selecting tees is available at http://www.playgolfamerica.com/index.cfm?action=teeitforward.
This is not about golf courses introducing new sets of tees. Most courses already offer 4 or more alternatives. The program is all about giving golfers an opportunity to play from distances that are properly aligned with their abilities. Hitting approach shots with 6- and 7-irons instead of hybrids and long irons makes for a much more enjoyable round.
At first thought you may not want to move to a new set of tees. There’s a stigma to moving to the white tees, or even the senior tees. I was hesitant, too. But overcoming my ego I made the move. This past month I gave it a try on a few rounds.
Depending on conditions I’ll consistently hit my driver 200-225 yards. I settled on tees that were 5715 and 6024 on challenging courses. Although both days were wet, I still had an opportunity to hit more short irons than usual. I really noticed a pleasant change on Par 3s and Par 5s. Low irons into those pins gave me an opportunity for birdies.
Now, if they could only come-up with something to help me putt!
