Is distance overrated?
09/09/2011
If you’ve read any of my Myrtle Beach Golf Authority course reviews, you know I admit to being “distance challenged.” I’ve lost almost two club lengths from every iron in my bag and most 14-year old kids are out driving me by 20 to 30 yards. Do not feel for me though because I can still scramble my way around the golf course. When I’m putting good, I can still be respectable.
It’s easy to write off my distance loss by simply admitting I’m just getting older. I’ve gained some weight. I don’t have the strength anymore. I’ve even read that distance is overrated. All that is absolutely true, but still I want some of my distance back!
The quest to find my lost distance began with a Google search for “golf exercises.” It took just 10 seconds to find 15,000,000 results! This exercise thing was beginning to look like work. Driven by the need for game improvement, I pressed and actually clicked through to a few web sites.
There was a considerable amount of information about how I can find my lost distance. There were some approaches that looked exactly like what Tin Cup used to fix his shanks. There were instructors that looked like they could bend a two iron using two fingers. Of course I was looking more for the Peter La Fleur from “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story” type. Well, I didn’t find La Fleur, but I did find one thing almost every site I visited had in common.
Every credible web site seemed to have a similar theme. The key to power is fitness through flexibility. Now wait a second! That makes sense! And it doesn’t look painful! I think I’m going to give this flexibility thing a try. The proper breathing and stretching exercise looks like it fits me to a tee.
Now, it’s your turn to take care of yourself. Do the search for “golf exercises” and see if there’s one that fits your time and lifestyle. If you already have a favorite flexibility exercise, let us all know.
