Fighting the summer heat
07/20/2011
NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (July 20, 2011) - From the Midwest and Southwest to the Northeast and certainly to the Southeast, almost every area of the U.S. is experiencing high temperatures and soaring heat indexes. This past Wednesday I played in a 102-degree heat index and today, it’s going to be worse. Here are two things to avoid heat exhaustion. Obviously, drink plenty of fluids. Water is great, but some say that sports drinks may actually be better. Waiting until your thirsty doesn’t work. The damage will already be done. We’re trying to stay hydrated, not curing dehydration. Secondly, just slow up a little. Walk slower to the green, or sit in the shade for a few minutes at the tee box. Pace of play is always important, but so is your health. If that group behind you is pushing, let them through and enjoy the remainder of your round.
