The Cherry Grove Pier was built in the early 1950s. It has weathered many a hurricane, and was remodeled and lengthened in 1999 after a visit from Hurricane Floyd.

With more than $11 million in production upgrades, the new show features a buccaneer battle, pirate feast, acrobatic competitions, live animals and new music by Parton and Mark Brymer,

Parton said in a written statement that it was time for a change at Dixie Stampede, which has run for about 18 years. "It may be a bold move but I think it's the right one," she said in the statement. "Myrtle Beach has so many repeat visitors because it is such a great vacation destination, it made sense for us to create a new adventure for families to enjoy."
